The importance of breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is an important part of a baby's growth and development. It provides a natural source of nutrients and helps strengthen the bond between mother and child. Breastfeeding has several benefits for the baby, protecting against several illnesses and respiratory tract infections, boosting the baby's immune system, and reducing the risk of SIDS. There are also maternal health benefits to breastfeeding such as the decreased risk of excessive menstrual blood loss, breast, ovarian, endometrial, and thyroid cancers, hypertension type 2 diabetes, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

We understand many women may be apprehensive or unsure at first about breastfeeding vs. bottle-feeding their baby. It’s normal to have many questions related to this and our doctors are here to support you. That is also why La Leche League International was founded, an international organization, with the primary focus on the personal one-to-one sharing of information and encouragement that provides new parents with the confidence they need to breastfeed their babies.
